HARD WORK.

A REAL DIFFERENCE.

See the real impact that you could have on these real people's lives...

"Owning a home will make me feel empowered and secure because having a home is the most important thing for a family," says Chivalla.

Mumina agrees saying, "It is a dream come true. I hope by us owning our own home, it will build confidence and encourage the children to own their own home in the future."

To their sponsors and volunteers Mumina says, "I would hug you and thank you and pray for you." Chivalla agrees saying, "I will be happy to see you and appreciate you for everything you do to help people like us."

Meet Chivalla Hussein & Mumina Sekondo

Chivalla and Mumina are the parents of a very large family of eight children with ages ranging from 17 to 1 year old. The family of 10 has had extreme trouble finding affordable living space. When they applied for the Habitat for Humanity homeownership program, they were renting a three-bedroom home. Shortly after being accepted into the Habitat program, their landlord decided to sell the property. They moved and the exact same thing happened again forcing them to live with family temporarily. They will be blessed with a forever home and space for everyone when they purchase their Habitat home. Chivalla works with Enterprise Rent-A-Car and Mumina works at Omni Hotel.

Both Chivalla and Mumina are from Somalia and come to the U.S. in search of freedom and peace. Chivalla says in their homeland torture and rape were common because of civil war. They arrived in the U.S. in 2006 and moved to Nashville in 2008. Mumina says she loves Nashville because, "It is a multicultural city and people get along with one another." They learned about the Habitat for Humanity homeownership program through friends and realized a Habitat home would be an excellent choice for them. They say it will be difficult to attend Habitat's required homeownership classes with their busy work schedules and caring for all their children, but they say they need the classes to understand the process of buying a home. Chivalla and Mumina have been preparing for the homeownership class by studying English so they can better communicate and understand the mortgage process.
