HARD WORK.

A REAL DIFFERENCE.

See the real impact that you could have on these real people's lives...

Meet Tyrika & Her Sons

Tyrika Warner has a very close family. It is because of their love and support that she is where she is today, doing and becoming more for her children.

The youngest of five children, Tyrika was born and raised in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Growing up, she and her siblings, spent most of their time hanging out together. When she was in the 4th Grade, Tyrika’s parents moved the family to Bell Buckle, TN. The children still attended school in Rutherford County and all five of them graduated from Riverdale High School.

When Tyrika was 15, she was already working and had plans to graduate early. “I was working at McDonald’s, attending summer school, and taking night classes,” she explained. “It was a lot, but completely worth it to graduate a year early and with my sister.” After high school, Tyrika got a job in housekeeping, started medical assistant school, and moved into a small apartment. She graduated from Kaplan University in 2015 and began working at a doctor’s office. She also met the love of her life, and they started a family. Tyrika’s life was good, and she was content.

In 2019, just a few days before their second son was born, her love passed away unexpectedly. “I had my son, went back to work after six weeks, and spent an entire year of my life just grieving,” Tyrika explained. “Thankfully, my family has been by my side to help me get through each day.”

After spending a year of her life in survival mode with her mind constantly racing, Tyrika decided she needed to make some changes. She felt like it was time to grow up and figure out life on her own for a change. In January of 2021, Tyrika began Nursing School at the Allied Health Career Institute. She is currently studying to become an LPN, working at Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, and hopes to eventually become a RN and work in labor and delivery one day.

In May of 2021, Tyrika applied for the Rutherford County Area Habitat Program. She was familiar with Habitat and thought it could be the perfect answer to the fresh start she was looking for. When Tyrika received the call that she had been accepted in the program, she said, “Shut up, what did you say again?” She was completely in shock and so excited! The first thing she did was send a message to her family group chat. They are all so excited for and motivated by her, as Tyrika is the first one of her siblings to become a homeowner.

Tyrika would like to thank everyone who is creating this opportunity for her and her boys. She admits that she still has some hard days, but doing something bigger and better for them, is what motivates her each day. She is looking forward to living in a neighborhood where her children can make new friends, where she can continue to grow, and where she can have peace about their future.

way toward a stronger community!
